LACPCA PURPOSE
- To unite, in a common cause, all law enforcement agencies in Los Angeles County utilizing the services of the canine as an aid in the prevention and detection of crime.
- To promote friendship and brotherhood among those interested in the training and utilization of the canine in police work.
- To improve the abilities of the canine in police work, thereby rendering better service to the community.
- To coordinate the exchange of ideas of any advanced training techniques utilizing police dogs.
- To improve the abilities and the image of the working police dogs to the populace in general, through improved public service in the prevention and detection of crime.
- To aid and assist those law enforcement agencies making application for information concerning the establishment of canine sections within their respective departments.
The Los Angeles County Police Canine Association represents the law enforcement communities of the most populous county in the United States. Nearly 60 Law Enforcement agencies protect and serve 22 million citizens in an area of over 3500 square miles.
As a detector, the dog is still unsurpassed because he is able to multiplex multiple trained odors in unusual situations and new environments. At night the K9 sees clearly. His senses alert him to the armed suspect nobody realizes is there. These dogs are valuable tools. They protect handlers and cover officers. But most importantly, police dogs protect the public.
